Google Galaxy Nexus: The first Android 4.0 smartphone

Samsung and Google inaugurated the first Android phone 4.0. On the menu: 720p HD widescreen and NFC.

After many rumors that he was to be called Nexus Prime, the new smartphone Google is finally official. Called Galaxy Nexus, and manufactured by Samsung, it becomes the new reference for the development of Google Android applications. This phone opens indeed the next major release of the mobile operating system from Google, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

The first Android 4.0

This version of Android brings many new features, such as notifications, widgets, Dictation, power management data ... and a new user interface. Unlike other Samsung phones, the Galaxy Nexus has no overlay.

Like the two previous Google phonesThe Nexus One and Nexus SThis new model has premium features, starting with a giant touch screen of 4.65-inch 720 x 1280 points, which can display video in HD 720p. The device uses the slab Super AMOLED from Samsung. The design of the screen is curved, and this is no physical button on the front.

A fasr smartphone and at the forefront

Its processor double heart, clocked at 1.2 GHz and associated with 1 GB of RAM, should provide the Galaxy Nexus great fluidity in launching and running applications and games. The storage space, 16 GB or 32 GB depending on the version, can be increased to 32 GB using a micro-SD card.

For downloads, the device should be fast: it has Wi-Fi a, b, g and n and two frequency bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), and manages the mobile Wi-Fi Direct ( connection between two devices without going through an access point). On network connections, the terminal four band GSM / Edge and five bands for 3G + / HSPA + shows theoretical maximum speeds of 21 Mbit / s downstream and 5.76 Mbit / s data transmission.

Another strong point is the first phone equipped with Google NFC chip. Approaching the mobile of another smartphone running the same OS, it is possible to exchange contacts and photos. The Nexus marks the beginning of the democratization of the NFC, which will arrive in force in many phones in 2012. Bluetooth is not only to the point: it is version 3.0 and not 4.0 (more energy).

5 Mega Pixel Camera

Multimedia side, the photo sensor is 5 Mpix only against 8 Mpix for competitors. But the number of megapixels does not guarantee a good quality photo or video. The device would have a very short response time to take a snapshot, a weak point on most smartphones current. It is able to record video in Full HD 1080p at 30 frames per second.

The 1.3 MP sensor, front, used for video chat or to recognize the face of the phone owner to unlock the system, new in Android 4.0. Finally, the battery has a capacity of 1750 mAh, which should give a very good battery life. It must be that to feed its large screen. The Google Galaxy Nexus, which does not yet know the price, will be available from mid-November.
