How to Check whether Power Supply or SMPS is working
I wanted to know whether my power supply is working i do not have an extra motherboard to test the power supply is there a way to check a power supply without connecting it to a motherboard. When i connect the power cable with the SMPS the fans on the power supply start working does it mean that power supply is working.
No if the fan on the Power Supply is running it does not indicates that the SMPS is working i think you need to use a multimeter and check the voltages of the SMPS and compare the voltages with the voltages given in the SMPS User Manual.
To find out if a power supply is feeding our components correctly we must turn on the power supply without plug-in components and check the voltages.
To do this follow these steps:
- Turn on the power supply without plug-in components.
- We can measure the voltages of the power supply with a multimeter, for it can follow this manual to know the voltage of each of the cables
- Once we have checked the voltages of each of the cables must know that for a functioning supply these voltages should be a little higher than the voltage specified in the operating voltages of an ATX power supply , if on the contrary, the voltages are less than those specified in the operating voltages of a power supply ATX power supply is not working properly.
